EMT Firefighter ALS/BLS - Full-time

Botetourt County is accepting applications for EMT/Firefighter-BLS and EMT/Firefighter-ALS positions. These positions will report directly to the Department of Fire & EMS, but will work closely with volunteer fire & EMS agencies. Duties will primarily focus on the provision of emergency medical care with firefighting as a secondary focus. Excellent opportunities for advancement.  Minimum Requirements: 21 years of age, valid Virginia driver’s license with good driving record, current EVOC, current VDFP FF I or NFPA 1001 equivalent required, FFII preferred.  Virginia OEMS EMT-B (BLS), EMT-I or P (ALS) with verifiable field experience, current CPR, PEPP, PHTLS, and ACLS (ALS) preferred.

Must be able to pass standard medical exams and physical ability/practical skills tests. Will be required to perform all physical tasks associated with emergency medical services, fire suppression and related activities.

Salary Range: BLS up to $32,000; ALS up to $37,000; DOQ.

Benefit package includes VRS retirement (w/ LEOS), health, dental, and life insurance, and educational reimbursement opportunities.

Botetourt County Employment Application


Planning and Zoning Intern - Temporary, seasonal

Botetourt County is seeking a summer intern to prepare and combine data from various systems into a database that will be utilized to track land use actions in a new software system (Harris Innoprise).

The responsibilities would include data management and accuracy review. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and understand zoning and land use planning processes and will be able to identify and execute action steps to convert data from Access to a database and shapefile capable to be maintained in ESRI GIS software. Knowledge of spatial relationships between data and parcel data is required, ability to understand basic web-based programming and formulas is preferred.  

This implementation project involves the combination of data from Proval, a real estate valuation program, GIS, EGTS Integrity a Real-estate Tax Software,  as well as thorough knowledge of Microsoft Access and Excel.

Starting rate of pay is $12 per hour

Botetourt County Employment Application


Recreation Maintenance Worker - Part-time, seasonal

Botetourt County is accepting applications to fill two part-time seasonal maintenance worker positions in the Parks and Recreation Department.  Preferred qualifica­tions in­clude experience in landscaping and grounds maintenance such as mowing, trimming, pruning, raking, shoveling and the operation of tools and equipment needed to perform these duties including riding and push mowers, weed-trimmers and hand tools.  This position will primarily work Mon-Fri 7:00am to 3:30pm, up to 24 hrs per week.  Some periodic evening or weekend duty may be required. This position requires the applicant to be able to work outdoors and be able to perform moderate to strenuous physical activity for periods up to eight hours per day.  Applicants must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license and a good driving record.

Starting rate of pay is $10 per hour, based on experience.

Sheriff's Office

Communication Operator (Dispatcher)

Starting salary $27,216 annually. Health, life and dental insurance provided for the employee at minimal cost.  Dependent coverage available. Employee pays 5% towards VRS. County of Botetourt pays the balance. 457 plan with some county match available.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • High School graduate
  • No criminal record
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license with good driving record
  • Good credit history
  • Citizen of the United States or have valid proof that citizenship is being sought

  • High School graduate or equivalent (prefer criminal justice training through accredited academy in Virginia or Criminal Justice degree, but not mandatory)
  • No criminal record.
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license with good driving record.
  • Good credit history.
  • Citizen of the United States or have valid proof that citizenship is being sought.

Must be able to successfully complete the physical and academic requirements of an accredited criminal justice academy.

Volunteering

  • Recreation

The Recreation Department is continually looking for dedicated volunteers to support its various programs and activities. The County utilizes volunteers to support parks and playing fields, coach youth sports teams, and promote its many programs. Additionally, the County works collectively with seven booster clubs in the area made up entirely of volunteers, which support and organize local youth sports leagues. The Botetourt Sports Complex has attracted more than 40,000 visitors to Botetourt since opening in July of 2007. It received the Best New Facility Award from the Virginia Recreation and Parks Society in 2008, Pioneer Athletics Field of the Year Award in 2011, and Amateur Softball Associations Complex of the Year in 2012.
